Juan

I've been taking classes with Juan for almost half a year now, basically starting from zero Spanish familiarity other than what I've learned in elementary school. Juan's teaching style keeps me engaged and the lessons progress in a way that make it easy to build upon past concepts. I've also appreciated when we take short detours from the lesson when Juan answers specific questions I have, sometimes giving historical and cultural context about Mexican Spanish. I can tell I'm making progress more consistently than when I've tried to learn by myself, so I'm excited to continue with Juan.

Juan is the best instructor! His lessons not only teach you the language and the grammar, but also the history of where the language derived from, helping you to connect with the Hispanic and Spanish culture even further. I've been working with Juan consistently every week for nearly 6 months now, and I have made so much progress and feel more confident. His lessons are organized, always prepared, and fun! Learning Spanish with Juan has truly been an enriching experience.

Juan is a great teacher. In our trial lesson, he assessed my reading, speaking, listening, and writing within half an hour. He always has structured exercises and homework prepared, but is happy to detour into discussions about slang, history, or culture. He's communicative about his schedule and understanding about the challenges of mine. I've been doing 2 sessions per week with Juan since February of 2025, to amazing effects. I can speak a few broken sentences here and there with the Spanish speakers in my life, recognize handfuls of phrases in overheard conversations, read signs - not too bad for starting from zero earlier this year. I have been studying with Juan for a year now, and he has greatly helped my Spanish. He’s an advocate for proper pronunciation and grammar, and always corrects you when you make mistakes. He also has a great sense of humour which makes every lesson fun and lighthearted. For me personally, this makes the learning process more enjoyable and relaxed.

Juan is an exceptional teacher!  I have been learning spanish with Juan for quite some time now, and my spanish has improved exponentially over the years because of him.  His lessons are well-prepared and highly customized to your level.  He can quickly assess what areas you need more attention on and prepare lessons based on where you can improve.  He is encouraging, fun, and intuitive, and more than just spanish, he teaches you history, local expressions, and how to express ideas like a native speaker.  He is dedicated, passionate, and all around good human being.  I'm so lucky to have Juan as my teacher!  I'm not sure I would have progressed as I have without his help.
