Hello! My name is Monica. I'm finally back to Italki!
Hi! I’m Marika, a Japanese tutor currently based in Fukuoka.
I lived in New York for about 10 years. I have several years of experience working in the hospitality and retail industries, where I learned how to communicate naturally and politely with people from all over the world.
As a teacher, I focus on creating relaxed and enjoyable lessons where you can feel comfortable expressing yourself in Japanese — even if you’re a total beginner!
I can also explain everything in English if needed, so don’t worry if your Japanese level is still low.

I’ve been teaching on italki since 2020 and have truly enjoyed connecting with so many students from around the world.
I always try to create a friendly and supportive learning environment where you can feel relaxed and confident expressing yourself.
My lessons are all about you—your goals, your pace, and your interests.
My background in retail sales has given me a deep appreciation for different perspectives and communication styles.

Making mistakes is an important part of learning—it helps you overcome hesitation and build confidence to express yourself in another language.
My lessons focus on conversation and listening.
I can help you with pronunciation too, as my Japanese accent is neutral and easy to understand.
You’re always welcome to bring any topics you’d like to talk about, or I can prepare some for you.

such an amazing teacher and fun and interesting lessons!! i can’t believe how fast i’m learning and monica san is very helpful and encouraging every time!! i most definitely recommend her class to anyone and everyone, she’s very flexible and patient and i’m looking forward to more lessons!! :)
