My name is Elise. I’m an educator who loves both learning and teaching languages, and I’m fluent in four: Mandarin, Hunan dialect, English, and Thai. Interestingly, my journey in language learning was not always smooth.When I was in my first year of middle school, my English grades were among the worst in the class. My parents even worried I might not get into high school. But just six months later, my English was best in my class. What happened? The answer is simple: interest drives learning.At the time, I became fascinated with the English classic Pride and Prejudice. In the beginning, I had to look up almost every page in the dictionary. But after three months, guess what happened?

Elise has been brilliant. She's fluent in Mandarin, English and also Thai. It's hugely beneficial to me, being a Thai & English speaker, to pick up Mandarin from her. We can draw comparison to either English or Thai, whichever more similar, given the context. Elise also strives to make the class really conversational. We don't just stay inside the lessons from the book, but also discuss about what we encounter in real life and how to express those situations in Mandarin.
