I have lived in the UK for over ten years, so English feels like my native tongue, and I know British culture well. I speak English and Cantonese fluently, have good Mandarin, and some Japanese. I enjoy playing guitar, and I love learning about cultures through talks, music, and food. I am curious by nature and enjoy meeting people, hearing stories, and sharing ideas.

I have taught in both university and secondary school, working with young people and adults. Students find me approachable and say I make learning comfortable. I explain ideas clearly and welcome questions. I can help students write strong personal statements, as I did for my BA, MA, and PhD. I can support scholarship success: I gained a university-funded MA award and a CHASE scholarship, a prestigious UK arts and humanities body. Additionally, I can help prepare for speaking exams such as IELTS and TOEFL.

I really enjoy learning with Eric. He is patient, professional, and always well-prepared for each class. What I appreciate most is that he listens carefully and tailors the lessons to my needs, whether it’s speaking practice, grammar, or real-life expressions. I’ve studied with almost 40 teachers on italki and taken over 80 lessons in total. With my background in TESOL, experience as an IELTS tutor, and now doing a Master’s in Applied Linguistics, I can honestly say Eric stands out as one of the very best. He’s not only skilled in his teaching methods, but also incredibly empathetic and supportive. I’d recommend him without hesitation to anyone who wants a great teacher.
