I am very progress-focused and enjoy creating a safe environment for people to learn a language. I am sympathetic and genuinely care about my students. I want my students to feel comfortable and excited about practicing and speaking Dutch. I like thinking about how I can best help my students achieve their goals, and I am always open to feedback.

Experienced Dutch Teacher Since September 2023, I have been working at the Colegio Albert Camus in Guadalajara, Mexico, as an English teacher. Besides, I have also always continued teaching Dutch, in which I teach privately online as well as offline. I’m more than happy to help people improve their Dutch, for example in preparation for the “inburgeringsexamen” in the Netherlands. I have experience working with just about all target groups and ages. At school I have taught or am still teaching students from primary school to Junior High, and in my private lessons the ages range from children to adults.

As a teacher, I mostly focus on helping you find your confidence while learning the new language. Making mistakes is a natural part of the process, and I will not nitpick or correct all the time, as long as you are understandable while speaking. I focus on making you feel comfortable first and then start pushing you a little bit out of your comfort zone, as that is when you learn the most. I am open to feedback and flexible in adapting my teaching style or materials to what works best for you.

As a teacher, I’m calm, structured and focused on real progress. I create a space where you can speak freely without pressure, because mistakes are part of growth. At the same time, my lessons are never random. I pay attention to patterns in your speech and guide you step by step. We don’t rush through material, we build it carefully so you actually remember it. My goal is simple: you leave each lesson feeling clearer, more confident and more in control of your Dutch. I teach with patience and enthusiasm, and I repeat things as often as needed. My goal is that you feel supported, confident and comfortable while your Dutch gradually improves.

I always emphasized that language and communication are not only about perfect vocabulary or word order, but about confidently delivering your message to the listener. But since the start of the crisis, I have been teaching online fulltime. I´ve always loved meeting people and talking to people so when I stopped travelling and settled down here in Mexico, working as teacher was a logical step. I was a language instructor in China for ten of the eleven years that I lived there (and an adventure tour leader for one!) and have also been teaching online for over three years now. I lived and worked in Guilin, Chongqing and Jiamusi and have developed a deep understanding of the people and culture of the country, although I enjoy learning about all cultures. After leaving China, I worked in law enforcement for a year and went back to school to pursue a degree in environmental science, but came back to teaching because I missed it!
