A standard tradition, habit or custom in one's country that everybody knows or does can be called a: (not personal, but country-wise)

In English, what we would describe as "from rags to riches" in Korean, the saying goes like:

천재 아니어서 열심히 일하겠다

어렸을때부터 열심히 공부하다

"Pleasure follows pain" meaning that something rewarding or great happens after hard work or suffering.

When something already happens, and you can't take it back, in Korean you can say:

"Living vicariously through someone."
Perhaps you're a mother who wanted to be a pianist but didn't get your big break. Years later, your daughter does and succeeds as a pianist, the mother is living vicariously through her daughters success
