Please DO NOT come to this class if you have NOT read the first four chapters. This is the third class: Lesson 3 Chapters 5 to 10 This is a weekly class where we will read and discuss the book. We will analyse the meaning of the vocabulary. The book is included in the lesson. "The Picture of Dorian Gray" is a novel by Oscar Wilde, first published in 1890. The story is about a young man named Dorian Gray who is the subject of a portrait painted by an artist named Basil Hallward. The portrait serves as a representation of Dorian's soul, and as Dorian descends into a life of hedonism and depravity, the portrait bears the physical marks of his moral decay, while Dorian remains unchanged in appearance. The novel explores themes of youth, beauty, corruption, and the consequences of hedonistic behaviour. Dorian becomes increasingly narcissistic and cruel, taking pleasure in causing harm to others, including his former friends and lovers. Eventually, Dorian becomes consumed by guilt and fear, leading him to take drastic measures to hide the portrait and preserve his appearance. The novel ends with ………….. Overall, "The Picture of Dorian Gray" is a complex and thought-provoking novel that has been widely celebrated for its insightful commentary on human nature and its beautiful and imaginative writing style.
