Vocabulary:
salt and pepper shakers: containers for salt and pepper
thingamajig: a word people use when they don't remember the right word
pepper spray: a spray used for self-defense
baby wipe: a moistened paper towel used to clean a baby
napkin: a paper towel used to clean the mouth after eating food
smushed: smashed
pico de gallo: salsa used in Mexican food
croutons: small pieces of toasted bread used in salad
cooking spray: a spray that keeps food from sticking to the pan
goo: sticky, thick substance
salad dressing: a liquid mixture used for salads
stethoscope: a tool doctors use to listen to a person's heartbeat

Una forma de dar explicaciones muy habitual en español a través del lenguaje oral es la expresión "es que". Hoy no has venido al partido. Es que tenía mucho trabajo. Es común usarlo para poner excusas cuando no hacemos alguna obligación o cumplimos algún compromiso social.

こんばんは、atsushiです。
今回も和食の文化について話をします。

日本には四季があります。
春、夏、秋、冬。
季節ごとに気温や気候が違うように、旬の食べ物も変わります。

今回は季節ごとの旬な食べ物の話をします。

まずは春からです。
僕は春といえば、たけのこを思い出します。
かといって、家でたくさん食べていたわけでは無いんですが、たけのこのイメージがあります。

他には貝類だとアサリですね、魚だと鯛とかニシンですらね。山菜だとあんまり食べないんですけど、ふきのとうとかですかね。あとは菜の花とかイチゴとかですね。

次は夏です。
夏といえば、僕はそうめんですね。実家にいた時によくそうめんを食べてました。一般的には、魚だとあじとかアナゴとかですね。カツオなどもます。野菜は枝豆、きゅうり、茄子とかですかね。果物だとやっぱりスイカですかね。日本の夏の果物はスイカってイメージは結構ありますね。

秋ですね。秋は食材が豊富になる時期なので、日本では良く、食欲の秋とか言いますね。
僕は秋といえば、梨とかさんまですね。鮭もそうですね。
一般的には、蓮根とか椎茸、しめじ、果物が多いですねぇ。栗とか柿とかぶどうですね。サツマイモとかもそうです。

最後に冬です。
冬は食材と言うよりも、なべのイメージがありますけど、かぼちゃとかですかね。
一般的には貝類の牡蠣とか魚だとタラとかふぐとかカニですね。野菜がと、大根とか白菜とかネギとかですかね。

今回は食材の話ばっかりしたんですけど、
もちろん旬の料理もありますので、その話はまた今度にしようと思います。
