こんにちは～！マルハバ！サウジの日本語の先生、佳子です＾＾
みなさんー！お元気ですかー？私が住んでいる地域ではもう夏を感じます。
日中汗ばむようになってきました。あー、サウジの冬、カムバック！
今日はですね～、サウジで運転免許証をゲットした話をしたいと思います。
私は去年の7月にサウジでめでたく運転免許証を取得しました～！日本の免許は2019年に取得して、月に数回運転していました。でも、サウジに来る前と来てから2年以上運転していなかったので、免許取得前はほぼペーパードライバーでした。なぜ、サウジで免許を取ろうかと思ったかというと、サウジは車社会で車がないとどこにも行けないということと、息子の学校の送り迎えをするためです。
サウジでの免許取得について詳しく調べる前、ネットなどでの情報では、日本の免許を持っていてもテストが必要な感じでした。サウジの家族でアメリカの免許から切り替えた人たちも「テストあったよ」と言っていたので、どきどきしていました。とりあえず、6月くらいから夫と一緒に住宅街を走る練習を始めました。サウジでは日本と反対に走るので、慣れるのに少し時間がかかりましたが、そこはそんなに問題ではなかったです。
免許センターなどは電話が繋がりにくいので、ちょっと遠いですが免許取得について詳しい情報を直接聞いたところ、テストなしで取得できることが発覚！すごく安心しました。

必要な書類に日本の免許証のアラビア語翻訳がありました。日本大使館に頼むこともできますが、リヤドまで行く必要があったので、一般の翻訳会社に翻訳を頼むことにしました。
次のステップは視力検査です。オンラインで予約し、病院で視力検査を受けました。その際、血液型の+,-を聞かれて知らなかったので、別の病院で血液検査をする羽目に。。。日本ではあまり+,-気にしないので、全然知らなかったです。日本の免許証に血液型の項目なんてありません。
無事に視力検査と血液検査が終わったので、オンラインで免許手続きの予約をし、免許センターと同じ敷地内にある、交通警察で手続きをしました。混んでなかったので20分程度で完了。5年分の料金を支払い、あっさり取得できましたー！日本の免許の更新の時は一般の人は5年ですが、サウジでは10年も選べるんです！
免許取得と先月の在留カード更新、息子のパスポート取得を終えてわかったことがあります。国際結婚手続きを除き、サウジのこういう手続き系、めっちゃ楽！予約はすべて一つのサイトでオンライン予約。免許と在留カードの写真はこちらで用意しなくていいです。在留カードはお金を払うだけで、カードはそのまま使えるのでとてもエコ。有効期限が書いてない理由がわかりました。いや、これが世界のスタンダードで日本がかなり遅れているのかもしれないですね。

それでは、今日のフレーズを確認しましょう～！
一つ目は、「ペーパードライバー」。paperとdriverの和製英語です。ちょっと意味を考えてみてください。つまり、「免許を持っているだけで、実際には運転する機会がない人」です。
二つ目は「エコ」。これはもともと英語のecologyの略で「エコ」という場合は「環境に良い」という意味で使います。日本では、スーパーやコンビニなどで買い物袋が有料なので、多くの人がエコバッグを持ち歩いています。サウジでは逆にスーパーで大量の袋をもらうので、この点に関しては全然エコではないです。面白いですね。
日本で買い物するときは買い物用の袋やカバンを持って行くのをおすすめします♪
