في وادي ظل الحياة المرصوف بالعظام والجماجم سرتُ وحيدًا في ليلةٍ حجب الضبابُ نجومَهَا، وَخَامَرَ الهولُ سكينتها.

هناك على  ضفاف نهر الدماء والدموع المُنسَابِ كالحية الرَّقْطَاءِ، المتراكض كأحلام المجرمين، وقفتُ مُصْغِيًا لهمس الأشباح مُحَدِّقًا باللاشيء.

ولمَّا انتصفَ الليل وقد خرجتْ مواكبُ الأرواح من أوكارها، سمعتُ وقع أقدام ثقيلة تقترب مني، فالتفتُّ وإذا بشبحٍ جبار مَهيب مُنتصب أمامي، فصرختُ مذعورًا: «ماذا تريدُ مني؟»

فنظر إليَّ بعينين مُشعشعتين كالمسارج، ثم أجاب بهدوء: «لا أريد شيئًا، وأريد كل شيء.»

قلتُ: «دعني وشأني وسِر في سبيلكَ.»

فقال مبتسمًا: «ما سبيلي سوى سبيلك؛ فأنا سائرٌ حيث تسير، ورابضٌ حيث تربض.»

 قلت: «جئتُ أطلب الوحدة، فخلِّنِي ووحدتي.» فقال: «أنا الوحدة نفسي. فلماذا تخافني؟» قلت: «لستُ بخائفٍ منك.» فقال: «إن لم تكن خائفًا فلماذا ترتجف مثل قصبة أمام الريح؟» قلت: «إن الهواء يتلاعب بأثوابي فترتجف، أما أنا فلا أرتجف.»
فضحك مُقهقهًا بصوتٍ يُضَارِعُ ضجيج العاصفة، ثم قال: «أنت جبان، تخافني وتخاف أن تخافني، فخوفكَ مُزدوج، ولكنك تحاول إخفاءه عني وراء خداع أوهى من خيوط العنكبوت، فضحكني وتغيظني.» ثم جلس على الصخر، فجلستُ قَسْرَ إرادتي مُحدقًا الى ملامحه المَهيبة، وبعد هُنيهة خِلتُها ألف عام نظر إليَّ مُستهزئًا وسألني قائلًا: «ما اسمك؟»

外に洗濯物（せんたくもの）が干せますね。

これで、たまっていた洗濯物がなくなります。
乾燥機（かんそうき）を使うと、やっぱりしわができたり、縮んだりすることがあります。
そのときは、しわを伸ばすためにアイロンをかけなくてはなりません。

ところで、みなさんはジーンズの洗濯をしますか。
ジーンズは色落ち（いろおち）することがありますから、洗濯のときは注意してください。

I can hang your washing (laundry) outside.

This will get rid of the laundry that has accumulated.
If I use the drying machine, it may still get wrinkles or shrinkage.
Then, I have to iron them to straighten out the wrinkles.

By the way, do you wash your jeans?
Jeans can fade in color, so be careful when washing them.

During the summers not too long ago, when politicians were on vacation and schools were closed, news in the UK often featured stories about things like cats in trees and UFOs, because there wasn't much else to report.

It was called "silly season" in the UK — of course there was other news, but not the usual daily politics, so there was more time for happier stories.

But some may feel like there isn't time for silly season these days.

And according to a recent study, thinking about the news is making British people anxious, something that's causing some of them to avoid engaging with it.

It also means they're less likely to engage with politics, the study suggests.

Researchers spoke to 43 people in the UK who said they never or rarely engage with professionally made news, whether that's on television, in newspapers or online.

The research was published in September 2022, but the interviews took place between November 2016 and March 2017, not long after the UK voted to leave the European Union (EU).

However, for most, it may not have been leaving the EU that caused them to avoid the news. Many reported feeling anxious or afraid when thinking about news stories featuring crime, war or terrorism.

People did think that they should know a little bit about global and national events, but this wasn't always enough to make them follow the news.

Many felt they could not understand the country's politics, or that political news was not relevant to them.

For politicians themselves, this could be a challenge, suggests the study — trying to communicate with those who avoid the news.
