Cochonnet, le petit cochon, a décidé que, pour le carnaval, il serait un loup. Évidemment, il n'en a parlé ni à ses parents ni à ses frères.
Le matin, sitôt éveillé, il s'est précipité dans le grenier, il a fouillé dans toutes les malles et a fini par être prêt. Vers midi, quand sa maman l'a appelé pour déjeuner, il a surgi dans la salle en poussant des hurlements féroces. Hello, this is episode 15 of season 2 of my podcast. Last month, I looked at the estate agent's website and noticed that the rent for the apartments in my apartment building had gone down. I talked to my landlord and he agreed to lower my rent too. I feel lucky. Apartments in Japan can have their rent reduced over time.

最近は大学で比較教育学について勉強しています。比較教育学とは、いろいろな国の教育システムの違いや、教育の歴史を調べて、比べる学問です。いろいろな国の教育を比べると、社会の違いがよくわかります。たとえば、義務教育の違いです。義務教育とは、子供が学校に行かなければならない期間です。日本は、小学校６年、中学校３年、全部で９年です。アメリカは９年から13年で、州によって違います。日本では、どの学校も同じ教科書を使います。アメリカでは、決められた教科書がありません。

I have recently been studying comparative pedagogy at university. Comparative pedagogy is the study of the differences in education systems and the history of education in different countries. Comparing the education systems of different countries gives a clear picture of the differences between societies. An example is the difference in Gimukyouiku. ‘Gimukyouiku’ (compulsory education) is the period during which children have to go to school. In Japan, there are six years of elementary school and three years of junior high school, nine years in all. In the USA, it ranges from 9 to 13 years, depending on the state. In Japan, all schools use the same textbooks. In the USA, there are no set textbooks.

今日はアメリカの生徒さんと、このことについて話しました。アメリカの中学校の歴史の授業では、国の歴史以外に、州の歴史も勉強するそうです。知りませんでした。日本の中学校では、どこに住んでいても同じ内容の、国の歴史を勉強します。高校でも歴史を勉強しますが、どこの学校も大体同じ内容だと思います。内容が大きく変わるのは大学に入ってからです。大学では専攻に関係する歴史を詳しく勉強します。

年末年始、どう過ごしていますか？
2024年、日本では、1/1の地震、1/2の飛行機事故がありました。

両方とも、長く影響があるようなことで、日本は年始早々大変です。

さて、今日は、日本の年始に食べる食べ物、おせちについて。実際ぼくはちゃんとしたおせち、実家で食べるようなおせちはもう何年も食べていません。

一般的な家では、まだおせちを食べている人もいると思うので、今日はおせちの話をします。

おせち料理は「今年も家族が一年間、健康で幸せに暮らせますように」という強い願いが込められた縁起の良い料理。

いくつもの料理があるので、4種類の料理を紹介します。

黒豆ー家族全員が今年1年まめで元気であることを願う食べ物

海老ー海老は背が丸い。腰が曲がるまで長生きを願う食べ物

栗きんとんーきんとんはお金という意味があり、豊かさを願う食べ物

数の子ー数の子はニシンの卵で、量が多いことから子沢山を願う食べ物

それぞれそんな意味があります。

そんなおせち、もう何十年も食べてない気がする。
来年は日本で食べようかなぁ。
