Many in Gen Z See Influencing as a Real Career
الوصف
Did you know you can now study how to become an influencer in college?
Around the world, colleges are starting to offer classes that teach students how to make online content. And while older people may not like the idea, young people seem excited by it!
In September, Talker Research asked 2,000 US adults about being an influencer as a career. More than half said they don't see it as a legitimate career. And one in three said they wouldn't support their child if they wanted to take a college course on how to become an influencer.
But there was a big difference between younger and older Americans.
Among Generation Z, almost half said being an influencer is a legitimate career. This group was born between 1997 and 2008. But among people born between 1946 and 1964, only about one in five agreed.
People were also asked to choose between a steady nine-to-five job and 1 million social media followers. Just over half chose the job — but among Gen Z, almost 40% chose the followers!
Experts say differences like this between generations aren't new, and parents have often questioned new kinds of jobs.
Today's young people have grown up watching others make money online as influencers. For them, working on social media may just feel like another kind of job.
For now, many Americans still prefer nine-to-five jobs. But younger people are much more open to the idea that being an influencer can be a legitimate career.
