Celebrating at Home: Birthdays, Good News and Exam Results | Spoken Malayalam #075
الوصف
Birthdays, a new job, a good exam result: Kerala families celebrate with sweets, cake and lots of noise. English speakers want to translate "Happy birthday" word by word, building something like "santhoshamulla janmadinam", which no one says. The natural wish is പിറന്നാൾ ആശംസകൾ (pirannaal aashamsakal) = happy birthday, literally "birthday wishes", or simply the English "Happy birthday".
In this episode:
• Birthdays
• Presents and surprises
• Sharing good news
• Exam results
• Congratulating and sweets
• An invented scene: a double celebration
• Language bridge
• Practice
• Self-check questions with answers
