مدرّسWhich language do you feel more like yourself in?
I started learning English a long time ago, and one thing I’ve noticed is how differently we can feel when speaking another language.
Our first language is deeply connected to childhood, memories, and emotions — whether happy or difficult. Because of that, some topics can feel very intense when we use our mother tongue.
In a foreign language, however, the emotional weight can feel lighter. We get a little more space and freedom to think and express ourselves — almost like a slightly different version of who we are.
I grew up in a Ukrainian- and Russian-speaking environment, and sometimes talking about certain things in English feels easier; it helps me open up and express myself more freely.
Have you ever noticed something similar?
Do you feel like a slightly different person when you speak another language?
I’d love to hear your thoughts 🙂
I’m really curious about your experience.
