When I was seven or eight years old, my parents held a party for me at school, with all my friends. It was wonderful because they brought me a cake and a lot of candy.

Hola Katee, no está mal. "Held" aunque directamente significa sostener, aquí significa celebrar. Candy normalmente no es contable, como cheese - queso, y meat - carne, si hablas en general. Si quieres hablar de tipos diferentes, bien, different candies. Sigue practicando. Saludos desde España. Simón.
