Hello everyone! When describing a movie, should we use the simple present or past simple? Should we say: "The acting is/was amazing? "The main character is/was well played by Keanu Reeves?" I never know which one to use :( Thank you so much for your help!

Both are fine. The key is just to pick one way, and stick with it, instead of mixing them up a lot.

Either. Depends on what my focus is. Obviously the film still exists, so IS works fine. But you SAW it last night, and you WERE impressed. The acting WAS good. "It was a brilliant film! I enjoyed it. The main character was great!" It's natural to use the past tense too, if you prefer.

When describing the plot or general events of a movie, it is common to use the simple present tense. This is because the events of the movie are seen as "always happening" when the movie is watched.

When describing a movie, it’s generally better to use the simple present tense. This is because the movie still exists and people can watch it, so it’s considered a current and ongoing experience. So you would say: * "The acting is amazing." * "The main character is well played by Keanu Reeves." The present tense makes the description feel more immediate and relevant.

Both work well for this scenario
