It would really help if you gave more context to your question for example if you told us that this extract is from "Crime and Punishment" - and if you give us the actual sentence that it was contained in 🙂: "Where is the daughter who had pity upon the filthy drunkard, her earthly father, undismayed by his beastliness?" Here, "beastliness" refers to the unpleasant nature and/ or behaviour of the father - presumably caused by his drunkenness.
