What does “quarter” mean when someone uses the word to introduce his bedroom? I came across this sentence from a Netflix show called Love on the Spectrum, and he says,
“This room here is my bedroom. But I actually call it my **quarters**. It’s the main place in this world that I feel safe”
There’s not much context here since it’s the first sentence he says while trying to show his room around. (And he’s Australian.) Would this be just his specific way of calling things or does it mean something generally understood in English? Thanks in advance.

Calling the room someone lives in "quarters" is a military thing. "The soldiers returned to their quarters."
