The graph/chart describes the amount of imports and exports in Japan in 2022. Overall, Japan imported more goods than it exported, and the largest part of trade was made with Asian countries. The total amount of exports by Japan was 9,820 billion yen, which increased by 18.2% from the previous year. About 55% of exports went to Asia, including China, South Korea and Taiwan. Japan exported mainly electronics to these countries. The second biggest region to which Japan exported was North America, whose percentage was about one-fifth. The main products to the US and Canada were automobiles and automobile parts. Focusing on imports next, the total amount of purchases showed a 39.6% increase from 2021 to 11,850 billion yen. Almost the half of imports came from Asian countries being electronics, iron, coal and chemical products. Japan imported oil and oil products from Middle Eastern countries, which accounted for nearly 15% of the total. North America, Europe and Oceania followed with a similar amount of trade, although their products varied from medicines to coal and gas.
