✨️Today’s Japanese Tip “How was it?” vs. “I hope you had fun” In English, both of these sound natural: “How was your holiday?” “I hope you had fun.” English speakers often add “I hope…” to sound warm and friendly. In Japanese, the same feeling is usually not said out loud. Instead, people simply ask: 「どうでしたか?」 (How was it?) 「楽しかったですか?」 (Did you have a good time?) These questions already include a quiet feeling of “I hope it went well.” The difference is not the feeling — but whether we say it, or leave it unspoken.
