Are you comfortable working with students from diverse backgrounds? Why ? Yes, because I care about making connections with people and doing the right thing for my students.

I included “Yes,” to make the answer more natural. “Making connections” sounds more natural when referring to diverse backgrounds. I removed the extra “about”, because “About doing the right thing” is enough; “about making a connection” and “about doing” made the sentence a bit clunky.
