personal goals vs social goals. please give your opinion.

There are 2 persons, person A and person B. both are best friends. They are in their late 20s. They are really smart and highly educated. They have decent jobs with good salaries.

They like to live life at the fullest, they want to enjoy everything. They like super crazy music parties and having exotic beautiful girlfriends. They want to travel the entire world and feel the different cultures. They want to attend all famous party-festivals of the world. They like clubs and alcohol. They like scuba-diving, skiing and sky diving and have all kinds of fun possible out there.

However they happen to meet a military man. The military guy says that he was just like them but he felt empty somewhere, he was feeling like he wasn’t giving enough back to the society. So he sacrificed his fun oriented goals and his personal life to join military. Now he does not have any time to have fun because of the nature of his job, he can’t have any kind of fun but he is very happy that he is dedicating his life for his society/country.

Now person A feels guilty that he should not have all this fun while his country is always in need of public services. So he leaves his high paying job, sacrifices his personal goals and joins military for a much lower salary. Now he can barely meet his family twice a year.

Person B thinks that his personal goals are more important for him than simply joining public services. He continues to have his job and keeps having fun. Enjoys with his family. He thinks he doesn’t break and government rules and pays taxes regularly, that’s enough.

Which one are you? Person A or person B? What would you do knowing that you can serve your country more by joining public services? Would you feel a little guilty if you are person B knowing that you are just having fun but you aren’t giving back enough to your country/society?

aegis, I know who is Concita and what is hermofhrodite? Do not show you like professor. I am a doctor now. And I can say some people have a seriously problem with their healthy, with their mind.

Do not forget I am not native english speaker. Maybe I can not explain all my thoughts.

And at first you asked me question ? Stop ironical comments.

@Leyla - Concita the bearded ladyboy singer? I doubt if I'd block someone over that dude, but I'll take your word for it. Why is the hermaphrodite question stupid? You gave your opinion as a man and as a woman. Hermaphroditism is a natural biological state. It isn't related to LGBT if that's why you thought the question was stupid. I thought you were a physician.

'Buddy', I didn't say you couldn't judge a person based on their deeds. Pay attention. I said, "Who are we to judge a person's merit on their choice of job". Sure, merit and career paths do have some correlation, but one does not constitute the other.

I'm not saying you can't judge people. If it makes you happy to go grow cocaine, fine. If it makes you happy to study medicine, no worries. Do what you want. Despite all the 'judging', you can still be happy doing what you want. What I am saying, however, is that people who choose certain professions/pursue ideologies in seeking gratification as ordained by a socially constructed idea of merit coming from the letters after your name, instead of that which makes them happy, are fooling themselves.

Why is person A more deserving of respect than person B?

Who are we to judge a person's merit on their choice of job? Why is the amount of respect someone gets dependent on a position in a preconstrued social hierarchy?

There's a very interesting TedTalk by a Swiss philosopher, Alain de Botton, about 'job snobbery'. Too many people sacrifice self fulfilment in favour of impressing their peers. If a man wants to join the military, go for it. But it's pitiful when one does that merely out of guilt or out of a notion of 'respect' attained.

aegis, I said about Concita some words and you blocked me. It is your busyness, aegis, believe or not.I never did bad things. It is just intetesting ,then why do you ask questions a person whom you blocked ? Are you bad or me ? And aegis we understand you know some termins. Maybe my english is not good. But everyone understood me, only you did not understand.

aegis, you are older than me. I do not want to be rude, really.Keep in mind.

I do not need you,you do not need me.Do not ask stupid questions" as hermofrodit" .It is not fashion now.Who wants to be friend I am friend forever.
