In this article I’ll focus on the importance to use all 4 brain training skills (reading, listening, speaking and writing) in correlation. To make studying efficient and brainwork productive a learner must use all active and passive learning methods at the same time. One should devote every free hour of a day to training the brain through various activities such as reading news, listening to music, audio books, radio shows, talking with native speakers via live chats or in speaking clubs, writing about your day in a diary, and watching sitcoms or series in your target language. Doing at least 2-3 activities every day will help to form learning habits and make the studying process easier.
Veronica,
Thank you for sharing this article. After years of learning languages, I totally approve your advice. This is absolutely essential to practice around these four training skills. Your brain is a muscle it needs to be trained like a runner needs to train his legs. Allocating one hour each day around your targeted language is great but you can rapidly give it up because of lack of time. What is best recommended is to may be reduce this time to 15-30 min each day but being truly regular. It means that you can spend only 15 minutes on learning a language but that needs to be on a daily basis. This way you have no excuse to blow off your daily language learning moment. By training your brain every day it makes the learning easier and more effective. Learning a new language requires a lot of patience and is often the reason of why we give up. Therefore you need a strong motivation, objective and passion in order to keep up with learning. If you decide to learn a new language to impress people, I bet you won't go far. Besides, learning a language does not have to be annoying like learning a text book by heart. You can make it fun by listening to music and watching series, you can also play games and meet up people through cocktail meet up organised by website such as "couch surfing".
To sum up your best friends to learn a language :
1- have a genuine incentive
2- be passionated
3-Allocate a bit of time every day => every day is the key
4-Have fun
5- Meet people
