A doubt about the days of the week

In Brazil the first day of the week is Monday, so we start to work on Monday. If Sunday is the first day of the week in Canada and  in the USA, does it mean that Americans and Canadians start to work on Sundays?

According to the (ISO), Sunday is the last day of the week, besides the ABNT also consider Sunday as the last day of the week in Brazil, so Monday is the first the of the week and the first day of work. The majority of Brazilian people don´t know this.

But I read that in the USA and Canada the first day of the week is Sunday and need to know if it´s true.

Yes, in the US, Sunday is the first day of the week. But, our first day of work is Monday.

Of course you have some people who have to work on Sundays,, but a standard work week is Monday-Friday

I agree with Phil. Monday is called segunda-feira, meaning second day after the Sabbath day. (which use to be Saturday, but now Sunday as become dominant due to Western Christianity.

I just think that the whole week thing goes back to biblical times. As the bible says, that earth was created in 6 days and on the seventh day he rested. Which is the Sabbath day, which is or was Saturday better said back then. So back then, we worked 6 days a week starting on Sunday. But thanks to time and changes of cultures and cultures mixing, most people work only 5 days a week at least in professional fields and that is why Monday is considered the first official work day of the week.

Personally, the idea and reality of time is mind blowing. To me the overall picture is that the universe was created and is expanding with time. To me that is time, the expansion it self is what is causing everything else to evolve around it.

I understand the history in time with different cultures, but he question is how did they first decide "hey, let's start keeping track of the days but in weeks now instead of going by the moon and the sun". Time is a word that is man made and who says that we are living on a Saturday today. It could be a Monday for all we know.

I just wanted to share my opinion. It's Saturday and the mind is thinking.

Have a great day everyone and enjoy your weekend.

In Portuguese, Monday is called "segunda" -- doesn't that mean "second"?

OK, so they might consider Sunday the first day of the week in the US. That doesn't mean they consider it the first day of the working week. Monday is the first day of the working week.
