I wonder what is the difference between "GOLD RUSH" and "GOLD FEVER" ? Is it the same? Are there any Australians, who can tell me sth about Australia and its history?

A gold rush is an event in which gold is discovered somewhere, and everyone rushes to get it.
"Gold fever" describes the mindset, feelings, or attitude of the people participating in the gold rush. It is that feeling of "I need to leave my home and go where the gold is right now!" So gold fever is what causes a gold rush.
