Hello Nick,
I think that you are on the right way learning Hiragana in the beginning, then some Kanji and Katakana in the end.
Concerning your original question: as a beginner you may want to start with "standard Japanese" from your textbook. After feeling more comfortable with that, you can check out some of the good books on Kansai dialect, of which Osaka dialect is one, besides Kyoto and Nara dialects.Tokyo has quite a strong dialect as well which is not standard at all. After watching the Tora-san movies I can tell you something about that....
がんばってください!
Hi mate, it's Shun from Japan
By my opinion, Osaka dialect sounds more familiar than any of else
I mean Osaka dialect seems kinda Far from Japanese culture that force us to be polite to the older
Some people think like "that sounds noisy, and rude I don't like it" but other people think like "That is cool. Sounds funny and comfortable."
I like it by the way.And also I think Osaka dialect makes a story more Funny and Attractive
