As we all anticipate the fifth episode of this ridiculously eventful seventh series, can we place Game of Thrones in the list of useful TV programs for learning British English?
Firstly, the series only contains accents from England and other non-native accents like Dutch, southern Europe, and the middle east. It completely lacks American influence. Opinions?
Secondly, the language used tends to follow the British way of speaking. It is very reflective of common speaking and more formal conversation, however, it tends to mix the modern with the medieval at times. Thoughts?
As an advanced student, I've learned a great deal from watching Game of Thrones. Hands down.
I'm more used to BE as I usually watch British TV shows so I would say Game of Thrones is worth watching if you aim to take the CAE/CPE exam. I remember back in 2011 when GoT had just started and I was studying for the CAE, I was using English subtitles but once you get used to the accents and funny terms like 'milk of the poppy' you're fine! :D
[SPOILER]
I liked Cersei's quote from last episode: Whatever stands in our way, we will defeat it.
Isn't she great?
