If I’ve understood correctly, your problem is that you’re having trouble finding a language partner, right? (If your problem is too many guys hitting on you, that’s another matter — let me know, and I’ll have some suggestions.) I’d suggest that taking an active role will pay off. 

You’ve already corrected a notebook entry in Portuguese — that’s great. It’s only been a couple of hours, so the writer hasn’t had time to read your corrections yet, but he will at some time. Here’s a suggestion for the next time you correct a notebook entry: Look at the writer’s previous entries and see if he or she takes the time to thank people for their help — that should give you an idea of whether or not you want to deal with them….

I see you’ve already written two notebook entries in English (that’s great) — and received corrections. That was yesterday, so may I ask why you haven’t thanked them? If Portuguese were the most popular language in the world and you were the only Portuguese speaker on italki, it wouldn’t matter, but in the real world, it pays to let people know you really appreciate the help. Little things make the difference between success and failure.
