Would the inability to pronounce the letter r - and consequently the letter ř - present a big problem for a foreigner that wants to learn czech?

Dont give up on both, though: there are people who cant pronounce Ř, yet have no trouble whatsoever with R, and vice versa.

Don't worry :) We will understand anyways either from pronunciation or the context. It's a common language "defect" even for Czech people. I think most people will be pleased that you are trying :)

Don't worry. People will understand you if you don't pronounce "ř" correctly. I even know a few Czech people who can't pronounce it very well.
