Disposable plastic bags, do you use them?
I think many of us regularly spend some time waiting in a queue for the till in grocery stores. And so do I. And in my country they sell disposable plastic bags so you can buy one or whatever quantity you need and pack all the stuff you've bought in it. And almost every evening I meet the same people in my local grocery store buying new disposable plastic bags. New, every day... Of course it's very convenient not to carry a used disposable bag or reusable grocery bag (not plastic of course) with you. But I do it and when I day by day see the same people buying new plastic bags I feel myself slightly irritated, because a lifespan of these bags is way less than an hour. We use too much plastic in our every day life, almost all goods we buy are packed in plastic or made of plastic and isn't it a good idea to reduce this amount at least a little bit by forcing ourselves to stop using disposable plastic things like grocery store's bags?
What do you think about this idea? Do you use disposable plastic bags? If so, do you use them several times? Is there any country where disposable plastic are already forbidden or party forbidden?

I live in New York City, and there was recently a new law passed that will ban the use of single use plastic bags in the whole city! I'm very proud of that because I've also always been bothered by the sheer number of plastic bags used in the US.

For example, if I go to the store to pick up just one thing and happen to forget my reusable bags, the cashier will often put it into two bags before I can say "Oh no thanks, I don't need a bag".

I do also use the single use bags for trash bags, so I'm slightly sad that I'm going to have to start buying actual garbage bags by then end of this year.

In Iran disposable bags are used everywhere but mostly we use them several times. Fortunately, the elites are using reusable and cotton bags. They started some compaigns to inform others about the consequnces of such behaviours.

In Norway, we usually store the disposable plastic bags for later usage, usually as garbage bags, but also for other purposes. But as I've traveled to other countries, I've come to realise we have really high quality plastic bags in Norway.

Still, personally, I rarely use them, and instead I bring re-usable bags.

I live in an area where one-time use plastic bags are not allowed (at least on a theoretical level).

The problem with this is multi-fold:

The reusable alternatives they offer can tear before you arrive home, thereby making them single use.

People forget to bring bags with them. Again, this makes them single use.

People who, like me, use public transport and cannot carry extra bags with them easily, then end up buying extra bags because of the convenience. Again, making them single use.

Some stores still use the true single use bags, yet charge for them. Again, this ensures single use.

This was put on the ballot to vote on, and obviously passed. They now charge us $0.10 per bag that many people still just throw away.

The same story here in my country and it’s for free. We often buy food, house stuffs in a market or a grocery and sellers always pack everything in a plastic bags even those stuffs have very low values. we throw all those bags away in a matter of seconds after we store our goods in right places at home. Just a few of them are reusable. But there are several supermarkets in the big city, such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh, they require you have to buy environmental bag. Of course this kind of bag is more expensive than plastic bag. This somehow reduces a little bit people’s habit of using disposable bag but as you might know that population of my country is very big, a round 90 million people, but the amount of people use environmental bag is so small. It just likes rain on a hot desert. So I think we should have a competition named “ who best to use less disposable bag” and the reward is several billion dollars.
