I was reading an article online and faced a sentence that seems difficult to me. I don't know whether i have understood that sentence right. I am pasting that sentence below:

" Meanwhile, in the Soviet Union, Boris Pasternak completed the manuscript of <em style="background-color: rgb(252, 252, 252); color: rgb(77, 78, 78);">Doctor Zhivago </em>and had it smuggled out of the country. The KGB tried to prevent its publication by an Italian publisher, which initially agreed out of shared communist sympathies only to reverse course after the Soviet-supported Hungarian government brutally suppressed the 1956 popular uprising."

I am paraphrasing the sentence in bold letter below based on my understanding. I would appreciate if you point out mistakes both in my understanding and in writing this post.

The Italian publisher, which might have agreed to publish the Pasternak's novel, agreed with KGB not to publish the novel. But they broke the agreement because Soviet (where KGB is a law force may be) helped Hungarian government to stop a rebellion against them in 1956. So the publisher actually published Pasternak's novel <em style="color: rgb(77, 78, 78); background-color: rgb(252, 252, 252);">Doctor Zhivago.</em>
