"Ei", "en", and "et" are the three articles in Norwegian, as you've understood. Norwegian has three grammatical genders, despite i.e. English. Those are: feminine, masculine and neuter. "Ei" is used for female (a lady, a cow, a book), "en" is for masculine (a man, a cat, a computer) and "et" is for neuter (a tree, a leaf, a necklace).
As a beginner of learning Norwegian it is practically impossible to know which gender the noun is. You should therefore use a dictionnary, whereas it there will be written what gender the noun is. When learning new words you should always learn them with their correct article. This will namely make it easier for you later, when you start inflecting into definite and indefinite, singular and plurals etc. I hope this helped!
