Blitzy:
There are advantages and disadvantages.
(1) Some people post to ask questions that could be answered by opening a dictionary.
(2) Also, some post in the errant presumption that there are grammatical rules governing idioms.
So in this regard, some people ask questions to an excess, or at least that is my opinion. I mean, reading a novel and posting 10 times a day to ask about every unfamiliar word or phrasing is perhaps an excess.
(3) In the discussions, participants ask all manner of trite questions such as:
"What are your favorite 5 songs?" "What do you think of Ukrainians?"
"What do you think of online romance" and so forth and so on.
It doesn't require much skill or knowledge to solicit superficial opinions on such subjects.
-----------------
Of course, these are my opinions, and not italki statements of policy; but I would indicate that a reduction of trivial postings can be a benefit to a website.
Thus, with a certain limitation on published material, the participants can be encouraged to publish material which has greater depth and is intended to be of benefit.
