Cultural quesrion
In Spanish speaking countries, what is their word for "hat"? I had a textbook that said that sombrero is the same as hat but I thought that a sombrero is a specific kind of hat.

Here in Andalucia, most people would say "gorra" not sombrero. Sombrero is a wide brimmed hat like the Mexican version.

Sombrero= hat. Los vaqueros usan sombreros no gorros.
Gorro=beanie
Gorra/cachucha= hat/baseball cap

sombrero esta bien a no ser que te refieras a la "gorra'' que cubre el rostro solo adelante o al"gorro" que es para abrigarse
