The German philosopher Wilhelm Dilthey considered the Reformation in Germany to be Germany’s own Renaissance, parallel to the Renaissance in other parts of Europe. However, the Palestinian scholar Azmi Bishara believes that the Reformation in Germany represents a different path, almost the antithesis of the Renaissance. Because it begins with a return to the text, the predecessors, and the fundamentals of religion.
