English For Kids What is the best ways to learn English? Yesterday I heard that the secondary students maybe stay at home until the beginning of April. It will be a long time so I decide to have a plan of teaching my children English. In fact, I make them listen to Razkids - an English story application for kids every day. I also made them read the stories aloud. Besides, I have them learning phonics and practice for cambridge exam tests. I have a radio on English for them to listen while they are playing. However, I think one of the best ways to learn English is to speak. I tried to speak with them dozens of times but failed. Now I am gonna try it again. Could anyone tell me some more ways to improve mine and their English! Please correct or answer me, or both. Thank you!

What is the best way (or are the best ways) to learn English?

Not bad, Molly.
Please don't use "gonna", particularly in writing. It's better to learn correct English. Also, sometimes, colloquial expressions might vary depending on different countries. (Ok, I'm a boring, old man!)
Keep practicing!

What are the best ways to learn English? I want to know because yesterday I heard that the secondary students will/might need to stay at home until the beginning of April. That is a long time to be out of school, so I decided to be productive by teaching my children English at home. In fact, I already make them listen to Razkids, which is an English story application for kids, every day. I also ask them to read the stories aloud. Additionally, I have them learning phonics and practicing for Cambridge exam tests. Finally, I have a radio station that uses English for them to listen while they are playing. However, I think that one of the best ways to learn English is to speak it. In the past, I have tried speaking with them dozens of times in English, but it has always failed. Now, though, I am going to try doing it again. Could anyone tell me some more ways to improve both my and their English?

Please correct or answer me, or both. Thank you.

Hi, Molly. Good job! As usual, “Whatever changes I made …” I hope that this helps you, Jonathan.

The word and verb, “is” is singular, but the word, “ways” is plural. As Simon did, change it to “are” as that word and verb is plural. Thus, “What is the best way” or “What are the best ways.”

The word, Cambridge, is a proper noun that needs capitalization.

Whenever you ask a question, you need to use a questions mark (?), not an exclamation point (!) Use an exclamation point to show excitement, otherwise, just use a period (I want some ice cream! I want some ice cream.).

As to learning English or any language, a person needs to have a vocabulary in that target language, either by reading or by saying it. In that respect, learn the English words for the everyday (*-^) objects found in your home (a shoe, a spoon, a hat, a table, a book, etc.), days of the week, material (wood, metal, rubber, plastic, etc.), and the names of food and liquids. Add to that by describing the color. Then, the size and shape. Thus, once your kids can say, “A dress,” they will then eventually say “A black dress,” then, “An old black cotton dress.” Gradually, by adding to, or building upon, what they know, they will be able to make longer and more complex sentences (That is an old black cotton dress that my mother wears to the temple.).

By then holding up a shoe, you can ask them an appropriate question (What is this?). They, in turn, can answer (That is a shoe). In this way, they can learn how distance affects word choice, and how the language changes depending on if an object is near or far away (This is my pen, here in my hand. That is your shoe, there on your foot. This is my house. That is your house). Regardless, this is all rather simple, as long as you have the vocabulary, and it does not require textbooks, learning formal rules, etc. Perhaps set aside a few hours each day, or days of the week, when they can only speak to you in English. The minds of children are like sponges: they can “soak up” knowledge quickly and easily…
