I told him that this term wasn't in use, and I knew "a slip of the pen(笔误)" and" a slip of the tongue(口误)", but have not seen "slip of the finger ". 我告诉他这条术语没有人在用,我知道“a slip of the pen(笔误)”和“ a slip of the tongue(口误)”,但没见过“slip of the finger”。(比较孤陋寡闻哈。) So I guessed he wanted to mean "let slip through one's fingers (lose hold of;miss opportunity of) ". 因此我猜他是不是想说“让机会从指缝间溜走/失去机会”? But soon he replied:"Slip of the finger ...because you type with your fingers. :) (modern day usage as most of us use the computer keyboard)." 但很快他就回复说:“Slip of the finger。。。因为你是用手指来输入:)(现代用法因为我们用的是电脑键盘)” Then I got his point and learned a new phrase. 然后我就明白他的意思了,而且还学了一个新习语。 I told him that he could say:"手误", if he meaned this. 我告诉他如果他指的是这个的话,他可以说:“手误”。 The reason is to make it 2-syllables, just like 笔误. Also, it is easier to say, and, after all, fingers are part of the hand.(This sentence was translated by him coz I only knew how to say it in Chinese.) 因为这是连个音节,就像“笔误”一样。而且比较容易念,毕竟,手指是手的一部分。(这句话是他翻译的,因为我只知道用中文这么说。) At last, I told him that this kind of behavior, that we talked by following-up comments because the daily message limit was exceeded ,was called "版聊" in Chinese. 最后,我告诉他我们这种因为每天的限制短信用完了而不得不跟帖聊天的行为在中文里叫做“版聊”。 But I don't know how to say it in English. 不过我不知道英文里怎么说? He told me his dictionary suggested 'chat versions' , but I don't think it is correct. 他告诉我他的字典提示“版本聊天”,不过我觉得这不正确。 But it is not bad, because our discussion concerning language study can be seen by everyone else, and it is also helpful for them~~ 不过这样也不错,我们的关于学习的讨论大家都能看到,对别人也是一种帮助。 I really like to talk with him like this coz I can benefit so much from it. 我真的喜欢和他像这样谈话因为我可以受益很多。 ================ 这样转来转去地转述确实比较乱,不知道你们能明白吗?谢谢!

Today in my post my friend Ges asked me a question that whether "slip of the finger" can be translated into "手指误" in Chinese.
今天在我的帖子里,我的朋友 Ges 问我一个问题:“slip of the finger”能不能翻译成中文“手指误”?

I told him that this term wasn't in use, and I knew "a slip of the pen(笔误)" and" a slip of the tongue(口误)", but have not seen "slip of the finger ".
我告诉他这条术语没有人在用,我知道“a slip of the pen(笔误)”和“ a slip of the tongue(口误)”,但没见过“slip of the finger”。(比较孤陋寡闻哈。)

So I guessed he wanted to mean "let slip through one's fingers (lose hold of;miss opportunity of) ".
因此我猜他是不是想说“让机会从指缝间溜走/失去机会”?

But soon he replied:"Slip of the finger ...because you type with your fingers. :) (modern day usage as most of us use the computer keyboard)."
但很快他就回复说:“Slip of the finger。。。因为你是用手指来输入:)(是现代用法,因为我们用的是电脑键盘)”

Then I got his point and learned a new phrase.
然后我就明白他的意思了,而且还学了一个新习语。

I told him that he could say:"手误", if he meaned this.
我告诉他如果他指的是这个的话,他可以说:“手误”。

The reason is to make it 2-syllables, just like 笔误. Also, it is easier to say, and, after all, fingers are part of the hand.(This sentence was translated by him coz I only knew how to say it in Chinese.)
因为这是两个音节,就像“笔误”一样。而且比较容易念,毕竟,手指是手的一部分。(这句话是他翻译的,因为我只知道用中文这么说。)

At last, I told him that this kind of behavior, that we talked by following-up comments because the daily message limit was exceeded ,was called "版聊" in Chinese.
最后,我告诉他我们这种因为每天的限制短信用完了而不得不跟帖聊天的行为在中文里叫做“版聊”。

But I don't know how to say it in English.
不过我不知道英文里怎么说?

He told me his dictionary suggested 'chat versions' , but I don't think it is correct.
他告诉我他的字典提示“版本聊天”,不过我觉得这不正确。

But it is not bad, because our discussion concerning language study can be seen by everyone else, and it is also helpful for them~~
不过这样也不错,我们的关于学习的讨论大家都能看到,对别人也是一种帮助。

I really like to talk with him like this coz I can benefit so much from it.
我真的喜欢和他像这样谈话,因为我可以受益很多。

这样转来转去地转述确实比较乱,不知道你们能明白吗?谢谢!
