American Idioms of the Day (From Pirates of the Caribbean)
Davey Jones' Locker (noun)- A word for the bottom of the ocean or the graveyard in the ocean where sailors who have drowned stay. This probably started in England, though I am not sure. If you watch the Pirates of the Caribbean movies you will hear them talk about it.
to walk the plank (verb)- When someone on a boat is forced to walk on a piece of wood on the edge of a boat until the fall off and land in the ocean
Example-If you fall off your boat in a storm you will end up in Davey Jones' Locker.
Example- Bad sailors will walk the plank and stay in Davey Jones' Locker.
