lichun-the beginning/start of spring

Today is 立春（lichun）- it is the first one of the '24 solar terms of China' . 'li' means beginning, 'chun' means spring. lichun is has been used to mark the beginning of spring from since the Qin dynasty of China, li chun means signifies/announces growth up, warmth and begin to indicates the time to plant in the fields. Spring is a good time to begin to plant. Lichun is one of the most important season points in the Chinese traditional solar calendar festival.

Does 立 <em>really mean 'start/beginning'? or is it just the usual way lichun 立春 is translated?  It feels too early to be spring yet - it is more like 'hint of spring!' or 'coming of spring' . 建立 is set-up? </em>
