Phrasal verbs II Phrasal verb: Take up Meaning: Start doing a particular job or activity. Example: I need to get more exercise, so I'm thinking of taking up jogging. Phrasal verb: Sum up Meaning: Describe the important facts or characteristics about. Example: How would you sum up her personality in just few words? Phrasal verb: Get hold of Meaning: Obtain something Example: We could play football this afternoon if I can get hold of a ball. Phrasal verb: Have a go Meaning: Try to do something. Example: Hans let me have a go on his new bike and now I want to get one myself. Phrasal verb: Take risks Meaning: Do something even though something bad might happen because of it. Example: I'd never do something like sky-diving because I don't enjoy taking risks. Phrasal verb: Make up Meaning: Say or write something which is not true. Example: Sometimes when I arrive home late, I make up an excuse to tell my parents why I am late. Phrasal verb: Keep a promise Meaning: Do what you say you would do Example: If you can't keep your promises, you shouldn't make them Phrasal verb: Not have a clue Meaning: Be completely unable to guess, understand or deal with something. Example: I borrowed the bike although I didn't have a clue how to ride it.
