Dance With My Father by Luther Vandross When I first heard a song "Dance With My Father" by Luther Vandross on the radio, I almost cried even though I couldn't catch every single word of the lyrics. This song is just beautiful and I love it very much!!! However, I still can't deeply understand the lyrics yet. I wonder why his father left a dollar "under my sheet" and not somewhere else like under his pillow? Is it American cultural thing?? I'm just curious. Please give me some feedback, thanks.

I have never heard the expression to leave a dollar under someones sheet, I agree that it should be pillow - it is possibly artistic licence - the artist has changed the words to fit his piece.

Hope this helps

Bob

I couldn't find any word to rhyme with sheet and that's why I asked you guys. Now, it's clear to me and I learned something new today:). Thanks for your comment, Stephanie!!

It is probably only to rhyme with "asleep". I agree, it's a very sad but very beautiful song.
