Curriculum Question: In modern society, many people think that primary schools should teach science and technology rather than history and geography which are useless and boring. Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Nowadays there is a heated dispute on whether or not science and technology courses are more important that history and geography in primary schools. This essay will discuss arguments on both sides and try to give a conclusion. Some people argue that science and technology are more useful and interesting. There are a number of clear benefits of them. To begin with, the most evident one would be they are involved in many experiments which are more interactive and have a lot of fun. Actually, students can do some less dangerous experiments themselves, which is a very exciting experience for them. Additionally, these kinds of knowledge can be applied to normal life and make people smart. For example, once students learned rain, snow and ice come from and then they can have a clearer picture of natural things. However, on the other hand, others believe history and geography have their own benefits. This can be explained by several ways. First of all, history and geography are part of our integrity. In fact, without these fields of knowledge, we would be less conscious of who we are and where we come from. Therefore, children need to learn them in order to preserve their heritage. As well as this, another obvious merit could be they can get some insights into how people lived in the past or how big our world is. This is beneficial because they can become more open-minded and have better understanding of other countries across the world. In conclusion, although science and technology courses are more attracting in some ways, history and geography are fairly significant and should be included in the school curriculum. Only in this way, we can make sure our children become an all-round person.
