Today's Dairy about a Discussion on a Poem
Today I read a poem by a friend of mine, and here's our discussion on his poem:
I: I love your sense of rhyme, but I think there's still a lack of something in your poem to strike a chord with readers.
He: I don't aim to strike a chord. Those who understand it they know what it is about. And every reader is different.
I: I mean something that shows you experienced a lot or you are sophisticated, sagacious and sapient. It's not about you but about your poem. This will let your poem give a feeling of psychological sense of reality. It's just like: "Oh my gosh, I love this poem 'cause I know this feeling" or "It's really wise, it's telling the truth".
He: I know what you mean, but I don't write with the aim to please anyone or strike chords with them. I write for myself, and if anyone likes it, then good. If not, their choice. Everyone is free. Both the poet and the reader.
I: Maybe you are right. Well I just realized that you were talking about the spirit of being a poet while I was talking about the technique of being a poet.
He: Haha, we are talking past each other. This happens, it is an inherent flaw in virtual communication.
