Recently is an adverb, while recent is an adjective. You may say: He recently went to see the doctor. Due to recent conditions, the doctor was not receiving patients. In fact, the doctor was ill recently.

Due to recent conditions. Recently would only be used when modifying a verb, like "We went recently to Japan on vacation".
