I don’t in any way blame him for that. What would I’ve done in his place? I might take a crap. I don’t know why he told it to us. Perhaps, it was the only thing he wanted us, his grandchildren, to know about the war. A war is a shit. Grandpa, I love you. RIP

Grandfather. Part 3

You can read beginning of the story here
part 1 https://www.italki.com/notebooks/886911
part 2 https://www.italki.com/entry/887025

When my grandfather got into the room, the officer closed the door and started shouting at him. He called my grandfather a piece of shit and blamed him in accused him (1) of committing espionage for the Germans. Afterwards, the commissar declared my grandfather to be an enemy of the people and said he must be eliminated. The commissar said he’d do it right now and right there. He pulled out a gun pointing it at my granddad. My granddad was frightened to the scared to (2) death. He turned pale, loose lost control and pissed in his pants. The officer put the gun down and asked if my grandfather understood his words. My granny grandfather did. Then the commissar let him out. He came out with tears in his eyes and with the wet pants.

That’s the story.

I had always known my grandpa as to be a strong man and he was really was a hell of a man. But that time he was not brave of him. I don’t in any way blame him for that. What would I’ve I have (3) done in his place? I might have taken a crap.

I don’t know why he told it to us. Perhaps, it was the only thing he wanted us, his grandchildren, to know about the war.

A war is a shit.

Grandpa, I love you.
RIP

(1) there's a subtle difference between "to blame" and "to accuse" and I feel accuse is better here.  "Accuse" is confronting someone about a suspected action (with or without proof).  "Blame" is assigning fault for an action that is known to have occurred (usually with proof but not necessarily).

(2) This is the idiom "scared to death".  It doesn't really work with other synonyms in my experience.

(3) You are correct that "I have" can contract to I've.  Bizarrely it just wouldn't in this situation and I can't quite put my finger on why.  I think it is because in this sentence you would really want to emphasise the "I".  I think it's fairly safe to say don't contract "I have" directly after would/could/should.
