You have chosen a difficult but lovely text :) Here is an explanation: This part of Ariel’s Song occurs after Ferdinand and his father (Alonso, the King of Naples) have been shipwrecked. His father drowned. ‘Full fathom five’ refers to how far down into the ocean his father has sunk. Modern translation says this is about 30 feet below the surface of the ocean. (1 fathom = 6 feet = 1.8 meters). ‘Of his bones are coral made’ = his bones have turned into the coral at the bottom of the ocean. ‘Those are pearls….’ = the pearls that normally comes from oyster and mussel the author says are like the father’s eyes (white and round). ‘Nothing of him….rich and strange’ = the sea has changed the father’s body into something ‘rich and strange’ (here, the word ‘rich’ is not wealthy, it means something more like ‘intense, vivid, brillant’). ‘Sea nymphs….knell’ = this is the sound of the gong or bell that you sometimes hear when a person dies.
Hope this helps :)
