“阳”与冬至 "Yang" and Winter Solstice 随着中国逐渐放松疫情管控,新冠病例也变得多了起来。中国人的见面问候从“你最近好吗?”变成了“你阳了吗?” With the gradual relaxation of epidemic control in China, the number of COVID-19 cases has also increased. The greeting of Chinese people has changed from "How are you recently?" to "Have you Yang (Are you positive)? " 阳,是中国古代最为重要的哲学概念之一。它从“太阳”的意义衍生出来,与“阴”相对,通常表示积极、上进、高处、活力等正面的意思。因此,中国有许多地名都带“阳”,如沈阳、南阳、洛阳等。 Yang is one of the most important philosophical concepts in ancient China. It derives from the meaning of "sun", and is opposite to "Yin". It usually have good meanings, such as positive, going forward, elevation and energetic. Therefore, there are many places named with "Yang" in China, such as Shenyang, Nanyang, Luoyang, etc. 但作为英文词positive的翻译,“阳”也被赋予了得某种疾病的负面意义。在“你阳了吗?”这句话中,“阳”从一个名词、形容词,活用为一个动词,体现了汉语的灵活性。 However, as the translation of the English word “positive”, "Yang" is also endowed with a bad meaning of suffering from a certain disease. In the sentence "Have you Yang?", "Yang" is used flexibly from a noun and adjective to a verb, reflecting the flexibility of Chinese. 今天正值冬至。冬至是一年中白昼最短、黑夜最长的一天。古代中国人意识到这点,认为从这天开始,阳气逐渐增加,阴气逐渐消退,是一个好兆头。所以古人把冬至所在的月,定为一年的第一个月(“子月”),并期盼从此时开始,好事会越来越多,坏事会越来越少。 Today is the winter solstice. The winter solstice is the day with the shortest day and the longest night in a year. The ancient Chinese people realized this and thought that it was a good omen that the Yang power gradually increased and the Yin power gradually faded from this day. Therefore, the ancients set the month of the winter solstice as the first month of the year (the "Zi month"), and hoped that from this time on, there would be more good things and less bad things. 我也希望从今天开始,中国的阳性病人都能渡过难关,阳气也能越来越多。在中国的传统医学中,阳气同时意味着免疫力。 I also hope that from today on, all the positive patients in China will be able to overcome the difficulty time and have more and more Yang power. In traditional Chinese medicine, Yang power also means immunity.
