A few days ago I watched the new Mortal Kombat movie, which is the first movie based on game series that came out since Mortal Kombat Anihilation, from 1997. The first movie, from 1995, was a success among the game fans and is considered by many as one of the best game adaptations to a movie. The second movie, from 1997, was considered a disaster, and that is probably the reason why it took so long for a new movie to come out. What I can tell you guys about this new movie is that for me it was a letdown. I mean, it has its upsides, such as the fight scenes between Scorpion and Sub-zero and the violence and fatalities that lacked in the first movies. However, the storyline is poor, the new character Cole Young is not engaging and some visual effects could have been better. I still wonder: How is possible that the 1995 digital-made-character Goro looks better than his 2021 version? I've heard rumors that the producers got an insufficient budget to do the movie as they wanted to do. Because of that, they decided to do a storyline previous to the one that we see in the first game (the storyline of the movie was never seen in the games) to show what they were able to do and this way trying to get a better budget for the next movies. If they succeed, maybe the next movie(s) will be better, since the actors did a good job in their majority. We'll see what happens, if something happens. In the meantime, the 1995 adaptation of the game is still the best Mortal Kombat adaptation to a movie.
