Style-wise = in terms of style, in respect of style It means that the style could be improved. The content may be OK, but the style needs to be improved.

It is hard to tell anything particular without the longer sentences, who said them. I have to use my imagination again. I would say "style-wise" when describing somebody or something which or who has a style but not over-style.
E.g. The new teacher was style-wise, she was wearing a black dress with a long collar and high heels. There was a beautiful hand-made white shawl covering her shoulders. (In the classroom the teacher was style-wise, in other words she knew the dress code of the school; if she went to a hen-party like this, I would doubt her "style")
Hope, it helps :)
