You can use both. Here are some examples: 1. A. Woman: Сегодня я очень много работала. Я пришла домой усталая (worn out, completely exhausted). B. Man: Сегодня я очень много работал. Я пришёл домой усталый 2. У него усталая походка (gait of a man who is very tired). 3. A. Woman: У меня усталая походка, потому что сегодня много ходила пешком. B. Man: У меня усталая походка, потому что сегодня много ходил пешком. 4. A. Woman: Я устала (I'm tired) B. Man: Я устал

The first one is the adjective. We almost don't use that expression. The second one is very common. I'm suggestion you to use the second.

"Я усталая" - такое выражение вообще-то никто не употребляет. Проще будет сказать "я устала".

You should use "Я устала/Я устал/ Я уставшая/ Я уставший". "Я уставшая/ Я уставший" - more emphatic and is usually used with the word "такой" - "я ТАКОЙ уставший" = "I`m very tired" . As "Я усталая" is the local collocation. In Moscow we don`t use it neither in oral speech nor in written form. If you say this phrase they will understand you but you can be taken for an uneducated person. But you may use "усталая/усталый" in combination with a noun. "усталая/усталый + smth/smb". For example "усталый человек, усталый вид, усталый взгляд".
